I DO NOT BELIEVE ROBOTS SHOULD EDIT OUR WORK. No robot editing. No, sir, no ma'am. Writing ain't no science, capybara. It's the writer's job, or the writer's editor, to analyze the repetition. And do it the old-fashioned way: by reading through the text. If a repetition doesn't bother you, then it's not a problem. If a repetition does bother you, then there will be collatoral damage in considering it anyway, and the number of things you'll find while doing a non-automated pass-through for repetition is important. ROBOTS SHOULD NOT EDIT YOUR WORK BECAUSE IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE TIME-INTENSIVE AND DIFFICULT, MOLLY. OR FRED.

I'm keenly aware that I use crutch words. I use Wordle to help see just how many times I used a word in a particular work:

http://www.wordle.net/

After running that, I tend to pair down words such as "see" "like" and "somewhat".

Part of it is working which one of the repetitions to replace and which ones to leave - which one ensures the best rhythm for your sentence? It's a thinking editing I'm advocating, not just a knee-jerk slash and burn - coz that's bad too! :-)

A handy helper for editing is the AutoCrit Editing Wizard. It helps with the 'de-that-erising' and with finding overused and repeated words.

The AutoCrit Wizard really helps me improve my manuscript -- and makes the editing process go faster, too!

I'm a big fan :-)
